Franken Fights for Senate Seat…

And the Democrats are holding their breath to see if they can get to 60!  Team Franken is claiming to be within 50 votes of freshman Republican Norm Coleman.  Coleman won in 2002, after Senator Paul Wellstone’s plane went down.  To me, and other Wellstone fans, that will always be his seat.  In my mind, had Senator Wellstone lived, there’d be no Norm Coleman to beat.

Naturally the Coleman team is claiming the count is much more in his favor.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see how many votes are tossed, and how many uncounted absentee ballots actually get counted.

Franken…Number 59 or Magical Number 60?

Franken is narrowing the gap between Republican Freshman Senator Norm Coleman in the bitter cold state of Minnesota.  Coleman now leads by a mere 174 votes!  Whoo hooo Team Franken!

As a fellow former Minnesotan, Paul Wellstone fan, and Franken lover this is GREAT news.  I have good feeling about the recount!

My only question is…will Franken or Jim Martin be number 59 or 60 for the Democrats?

The Road to 60.

Okay.  Just when I thought we were done, I’ve realized we are not!  WHOO HOO!!

I earlier called Alaska for convicted felon (isn’t that fun?) Ted Stevens, but Begich is gaining steadily.  He is now leading by 2,374 votes.  Alaska…I’m getting prouder by the count.

In addition, we have a Senate run off in Georgia.  Jim Martin is seeking to upset the Republican Party’s nasty Saxby Chambliss.  Yeah, I hate that guy.  I know I’ve mentioned it before, but it really doesn’t get old for me.  I’ve also mentioned every Democrat possible should get their behinds to Georgia to give Jim Martin a hand…and that includes our President Elect Barack Obama.

And the final race to reach 60 brings me to one of my favorite states, Minnesota.  This is Paul Wellstone’s seat.  It will always be Senator Wellstone’s seat to me.  They are currently getting ready to start the recount between Al Franken (I’ll admit I’m a fan…love that guy’s books) and Norm the suit wearing worm Coleman.  Now from what I hear the recount may favor Franken.  Apparently the districts with issues are Franken friendly territory, so keep your fingers crossed!

So…we need Alaska, Georgia, and Minnesota to see our dream of 60 come true.  Keep your fingers crossed…or better yet, uncross those fingers and make some phone calls!!!

Coleman’s Lead is Shrinking…

Bummer. Nah, not really. I’m not a Norm Coleman fan at all. Whenever I think of Norm Coleman, I am reminded that he holds what used to be Paul Wellstone’s Senate seat. YUCK.

Coleman is now leading Franken by a mere 239 votes. Lets hope the recount goes smoothly…and Al Franken wins!!

Tonight’s Election of Barack Obama…

Reminds me of my favorite political person of all times…Paul Wellstone.  Here’s a quote from him.

“Politics is not about power.  Politics is not about money.  Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning.  Politics is about the improvement of people’s lives.  it’s about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our country and in our world.  Politics is about doing well for people.”

Where’s the Love for Franken?

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has apparently endoresed Norm Coleman for Senate.  When I heard this I was shocked.  Sickened.  And not quite sure I believed it.  My husband broke the news to me this morning, thankfully after I had had some coffee.  So I got online to verify (yes sometimes I hope what’s he’s saying is not true), but it was.  UGH.

First off, I’ve lived in Minnesota for a considerable amount of time.  Now, I’ve lived in 8 states, but I still consider the Midwest to be “home”.  I also consider Paul Wellstone to be one of my few political heros.  I can still remember when he spoke on my college campus, and when I was in DC visiting the Senator was thrilled to see me.  I mean the guy came bounding up to shake my hand!  It was a pretty exciting moment for me.  I’d always been interested in politics, but that was probably the turning point for me.  I decided I was no longer just going to vote, I was going to engage.

My favorite Wellstone quote, “Politics is not about power.  Politics is not about money.  Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning.  Politics is about the improvement of people’s lives.  it’s about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our country and in our world.  Politics is about doing well for people.”  There are very few politicians that not only say it, but live it.  Paul Wellstone was one of those few.

All I can say, as a Wellstone Democrat, is how, how on earth could the Star Tribune support Norm the Worm Coleman???  This guy ran politicing Paul Wellstone’s death.  He has continually run filthy ads.  Hell, he ran them against Wellstone when he was alive!

Tell Norm Coleman you believe politics are for helping people and send him packing!
