Interesting little nugget of fun that has gotten very little press.  I’d love for someone to explain to me how someone amasses $100 million in an IRA legally and ethically?

http://beginnersinvest.about.com/od/sepira/a/sep-ira-contribution-limits.htm

So lets say Mitt began earning money his first year of life.  Lets also say he’s been able to contribute $50k a year (I’ve rounded up here) for every year he’s been alive.  He is 65.  That would mean he should have a grand total of $3,250,000.  HUH???

There’s a bit of a discrepancy here.

$100,000,000 – $3,250,000 = $96,750,000

Now I’ve asked a few friends that work in the financial industry about this.  One shook his head and said, “I have NO idea.”  Another smirked and said, “Probably by undervaluing stock.”  WHAT? You can do that??  He said, “Ethically no.”  Nice.

So someone tell me how Mitt Romney legally and ethically got $96,750,000 of extra money into his IRA?  Unless he is really 2000 years old???  We will probably NEVER know as the guy won’t release his tax returns!

Mitt Romney…

Now, I want to start by saying I do not agree with most of what Mitt Romney has to say.  I was very disappointed to see him change the pro-choice stance that enabled him to be elected as a Republican in the State of Massachusetts.  However, I have never understood why the right cannibalized him.  As the primary went on I even began to feel sorry for the guy.

I also wondered why Republicans weren’t seeing what I was seeing. Here’s a guy that has a pretty good record fiscally and knows how to run a successful business.  According to the Republican Party, he should be their guy.  Instead they keep picking fiscally “unstable” jerks.  George W. Bush never ran a company successfully in fact he pretty much bankrupted much of what he was involved with.  And look what he did to the country.  Then the primary closes with old man McCain who admits he doesn’t understand the economy.  Then he picks Crazy Palin who can’t even complete a sentence.

Why didn’t he pick Romney?  He’s young.  Attractive (yes for all his conservative crap the guy is attractive).  He’s got a nice family.  He’s successful.  He’s been a moderate before…perhaps he can find his way back to the middle.

Oh yeah…he’s a Mormon.  I truly believe if he’s been a Protestant or a Catholic he’d have been their guy, and we’d have had a completely different race.  Personally, I could care less about the guy’s religion, but that’s just me.

I’ll be curious to see if the Right sees right and Mitt Romney is their guy in 2012.

RNC has Deep Pockets for Chambliss

The RNC is bankrolling Saxby Chambliss.  Not really surprising considering his reelection may be needed to keep the Democrats from gaining a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

Rudy Giuliani has apparently decided to make an appearance fund raising for Chambliss.  I wonder though if Rudy should be fund raising for himself to pay off his own campaign debt, but hey that’s just me.  McCain and Romney have put in appearances as well.

Jim Martin has received some help from Bill Clinton and Al Gore.  I’m still hoping the President Elect will make an appearance or two as well.

Powell Endorses Obama, and Sets Record Straight About Hate Speech

I watched Colin Powell this morning on Meet the Press.  I think the best part of the endorsement was setting the Obama and is he a Muslim rhetoric straight.  Mr. Powell was very clear that Obama is not Muslim, however the point he made was…And so what if he were?

Now we’ve seen John McCain correct many a person on this fact.  However, he has never made the critical point that it shouldn’t matter either way.  We watched Mitt Romney face these questions as he made his run in the primary.  Now Governor Romney is Mormom, which doesn’t appear to be as repugnent as being Muslim, but his relegion was very much in play for questioning.

I don’t think we can judge a person based on religion.  If we did, Christians would be thought of as horrible people too.  Think about it.  The KKK is a “Christian” organization.  Hitler was a “Christian”.  Timmothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bomber)…Christian.  It is time we wake up in this country and accept that there are many colors, religions, and ethnic groups.  Our great Constitution allows for that.  Lets celebrate in the fact that we are one of the most diverse nations in the world.
